Michael Spinks wins the world heavyweight boxing title over Larry Holmes.
Football: San Francisco defeats Miami 38-16 in Super Bowl XIX
Baseball: Kansas City beats the St. Louis Cardinals 4 games to 3 in the World Series. Also, Pete Rose passes Ty Cobb's record of 4,191 career hits
