What about the playlist, how do you determine the top 50? 

The playlist is from a Billboard spreadsheet listing all of the music that charted in a given year from 1890. Our own analysis led to the creation of these Top 50 hits of each year.

As part of the agreement with finetune, the playlist plays in a random order. This allows them and us to simplify the playlist building process.  We also think it provides a more pleasant sounding experience. It allows the listener to hear the music as it might have been played on a true Top 40/pop station in that particular year.
